Understanding Godi Media

Godi Media is a term frequently used by several media houses, YouTubers, and people with differing political views to label pro-government voices as media that sits on the lap of the government, meaning they obey it, similar to a child sitting on their parents’ lap and obeying them. The term is believed to originate from Ravish Kumar during his editorial career in NDTV (then owned by Prannoy Roy and Radhika Roy, who sold it to Gautam Adani in 2022).

The classification depends on the degree of support for PM Narendra Modi, the Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP), the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh(RSS), and pro-Hindutva organizations across different media channels. Since all of these organizations have nationalism at their core, any nationalist media house or journalist is also termed as Godi Media.

Why did we name our site as Godi Media?

Among supporters and opponents of the channels and journalists termed “Godi Media”, the term is viewed negatively.

However, we view it as a validation of our nationalistic approach to media.

This website, also titled Godi Media, rather welcomes the name as a brand, and we see it as indicative of our pro-nationalist approach.

However, in line with our commitment to Independent Journalism, we do not support all of the current government’s policies and will raise our voices as required to uphold truth in all cases.
