Lately, there has been a lot of controversy around PM Narendra Modi putting tricolored handkerchiefs in his pocket square to represent the National Flag of India, with critics calling it a wrong way with saying that the tricolour must feature saffron, white and green, in that order from a viewer’s perspective.
The Flag Code of India 2002 clearly states that when a tricolour is flown vertically, as it would be in the case of a pocket square, it must feature the saffron on the extreme left, white in the middle, and green in the rightmost side from a viewer’s perspective.

Part 2, Section 1, Rule 2.2, Part (vi) states that:
when displayed vertically, the saffron band should be on the right with reference to the Flag (i.e., left to the person facing the Flag).
